October is such a fun month at Child’s Voice! The children are learning about fire safety, harvest foods, fall vocabulary, and of course Halloween. I can’t wait to see everyone in their costumes! The adults at Child’s Voice are also learning this fall. We had an excellent professional development day that focused on language sampling and school safety. These topics provided sparked meaningful conversations about how to elicit and analyze language as well how to keep Child’s Voice safe in the event of an emergency. I am continually impressed by our staff’s dedication to their work and our students. It is a joy to work with such a knowledgeable and caring group of people.
Our next professional development opportunity will be for staff to visit classrooms in the mainstream/ general education setting. Our goal is to better understand how children learn outside of Child’s Voice so that we can better prepare them for the next steps in their educational journey when they are ready. We will be paying attention to the expectations teachers have for their students, the language used by teachers and students, and the curriculums implemented in public schools. Our goals for our students are to prepare them to be successful not just at Child’s Voice but in all areas of life. I am looking forward to hearing what everyone learns from this experience.
The other big topic of discussion recently is our upcoming fall event “Cheers to Child’s Voice.” This event is an opportunity for a fun evening out that will also provide opportunities to learn more about our important work. While you are having delicious food and drinks you can visit our classrooms and our Audiology Center and see firsthand the magic that goes on in all of our programs. We will have staff on site to describe how children with hearing loss learn to listen, talk, and succeed academically at Child’s Voice. I hope you will join us in the celebration of the work we do and help us to continue our mission. If you can’t make it for “Cheers” you are always welcome to come and visit to see our amazing programs in action. I am so proud to be a part of Child’s Voice and I look forward to sharing this amazing place with you!
Best,
Wendy
