A Tasty Treat

A Book Tasting at Child’s Voice

On Saturday, January 28th, ChildBook Tasting’s Voice hosted a Book Tasting for families. Students and their families gathered together to learn about new genres of books, find new ways to incorporate reading at home and enjoy some wonderful storytelling.

One fun fact learned, the term “bookworm,” derives from tiny insects who feed on the binding of books libido-de.com.  Did you know that?  Perhaps, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” could have tasted a book or two!

“Reading and literacy is a vehicle through which children and families can travel the world together,” shared Dr. Michele Wilkins, Child’s Voice Executive Director.  “Adding this event, allows us to engage our families and showcase the many varieties of books for them to enjoy.”

Child’s Voice staff served as chefs offering tastings of books in four genres: Rhyming, Laura Numeroff books, books by Eric Litwin, and classic stories (some with a twist).  Once the staff chefs shared an overview and important information for the parents, each family had time to try out one of the new books.  A binder of resources was shared with families with resources, guides and more.

Parents and children were also treated to fantastic storytelling from Dot Kane, Storyteller. She shared a number of stories through song, humor and dance. FamilyReading

“Reading is a fundamental block of learning,” Principal Wendy Adler said. “If we can engage these students and help promote an early love of reading, it will help them throughout their education.”

At Child’s Voice, we know we’re not alone in our love of reading!  Here are two of our favorite quotes about reading:

“A reader lives a thousand lives before dying; one who never reads lives only one.” – George R. R. Martin

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Seuss

P.S. Be sure to join us on February 16th when Eric Litwin, New York Times best-selling author, joins us at Child’s Voice for a FREE performance and book signing.
