National School Choice Week

Sports Day during School Choice Week

The goal of National School Choice Week, the largest annual celebration of opportunity in education, is to raise public awareness of all types of education options for children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and homeschooling.

Child’s Voice also celebrates National School Choice Week. In fact, the week is full of fun activities, especially those that involve clothing choices. If you visit us this week, you might see children with ‘crazy hair’ all purple and green or everyone in their Child’s Voice spirit wear.

Illinois State Board of Education approves Child’s Voice to serve children with hearing loss. We contract with local school districts to provide listening and spoken language to district children with hearing loss. Public school programs ‘place’ their child with hearing loss in our care to educate them and to teach them how to listen and talk. Our mission, as you all know, is to empower children with hearing loss to be successful in all educational and social settings by optimizing their listening, speaking, and academic skills. Actually, we are experts at doing just that!

Although our families have a choice of educational options (i.e. home district or cooperative classroom) these really do not meet the needs of the child or parents’ goals for their child.

We work hand-in-hand with all districts. We want all students to return to their local neighborhood program when the student is ready. That looks different for each child.

Child’s Voice supports school choice. If parents could select their preference the happier we all would be.

Go Child’s Voice!!

Fondly,

Dr. Michele
