Robin singing on a branchIn Chicago there is a saying: “Wait 5 minutes and the weather will change.”  So true.

We experienced incredible snow this winter topping over at 40-plus inches. It snowed so hard and long traffic came to a stop. But in Chicago, traffic can come to a stop without snow. And now in the month of March the 40 inches has melted. In fact, signs of spring are popping up everywhere.

Early flowers are sprouting. Robins are chirping in the trees. And babes are being born.

This is the point that brings me to celebrate spring at Child’s Voice. With most staff on their way to be fully vaccinated, we have hope. With remote students returning to in-person learning, we have optimism. With the positive ongoing changes in federal, state, and local regulations, we have anticipation.

Best of all, this March we welcomed three staff members’ newborns into our CV family. We have faith and promise.

We are all still cautious. We still practice the 3 W’s (Wash your hands. Wear a face covering. Watch your distance). We still abide by our social contract to keep each other safe. We still do not know if ‘normal’ will ever return or even what the new normal means. I give praise to our staff for supporting each other and their students. I give thanks to our families for keeping their loved ones safe. And to the students, I commend them for showing up every day EAGER to LEARN. We are all in this together. I am grateful for that too.

For our families and friends who have lost loved ones to this pandemic, we are very sad. We extend ourselves to you and ask for the courage to continue. At Child’s Voice, our Board of Directors remain to volunteer their time to ensure all of us are heading in the right direction.

Spring is a time of renewal. I know we all are ready to do so.
