315The Literacy Committee has been working hard this year to encourage reading at home through our school-wide reading program, BOOK IT. Our next goal is to reach out to parents through the newsletter to help facilitate reading development at home. Each month we will talk about one of the 5 areas of reading (Phonics, Phonemic Awareness, Vocabulary, Fluency, and Comprehension) and focus on how you can help your child at home. Think of reading like driving a car. You need all the parts to work together in order to move forward, right? Reading is a process and our goal is for children to use all the parts together and be able to read with understanding. Let’s work on fine tuning each part to become successful readers!
