Marianne Benedek, MSW, LSW, Social WorkerMarianne
In March 2016, Child’s Voice was thrilled to expand our parent and student support with the addition of Marianne as the organization’s social worker.  This role was created to directly address the social and emotional needs of our students and to offer support, education and coaching for parents of our students and alumni.

Another important component of having a social worker on staff, has been the immediate availability to engage parents that receive a diagnosis of hearing loss for their child through the PEHDI® (Pediatric Early Hearing Detection & Intervention) Program. Marianne is facilitating social skills groups with students in our School Program. This group works on social/emotional skills such as being a good friend, how to build relationships, self-advocacy within their peer groups and offers the opportunity to share with classmates and Marianne in a small group setting.

Finding the right person for this position, offered a unique challenge. In Marianne, we found the perfect mixture of passion for social work services and supporting children with hearing loss.  Marianne initially found Child’s Voice in 2007, when her daughter was diagnosed with hearing loss. She participated in the Early Intervention Program at Child’s Voice. After receiving her MSW (Master’s in Social Work), Marianne reconnected with Child’s Voice and coincidentally, we were seeking a social worker.

“On a personal level, I do not feel my daughter would be where she is without beginning her journey at Child’s Voice,” Marianne shared.  “I stay involved because I feel strongly about the mission and I hope other families will have the same advantage we did.”

Marianne received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts Boston and her Masters of Social Work degree from Loyola University Chicago. She resides in the western suburbs with her family.

She has and continues to volunteer with her family at the Child’s Voice Family Reunion and enjoys giving back to Child’s Voice.  When not busy with her work and family, Marianne’s hobbies include running, reading, baking and more family time. Kayaking is next on her list!
