On November 3, 2018, hundreds of Child’s Voice families, supporters, volunteers, and staff will gather to celebrate the children and family members of Child’s Voice. This annual event raises funds to support Child’s Voice programs, benefiting children with hearing loss and their families. It will be held at the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center.

The Gala features two alumni speakers, Dan McMahon, ’98, (Hinsdale) and Jenna Harris, ’08, (Park Ridge) who will share their stories about their journey at Child’s Voice and after their graduation from the Program.  Dan will also help in presenting the Voice from the Heart Award to Laurie McMahon, his mother, for her dedicated support and service to Child’s Voice students and families. For more information on the Voice from the Heart Award, please visit the Child’s Voice web site at This year’s Gala Co-Chairs are Courtney Lee, a current Child’s Voice parent and Melissa Lundt, Child’s Voice Special

Services Coordinator.

“The Gala is near and dear to my heart. Watching the graduate speakers stand in front of 300+ attendees and confidently share their success stories is something I look forward to every year,” shared Melissa Lundt. “Volunteers make such a difference, particularly at the Gala. I have seen them hard at work for the past six years through my work on the Gala Committee. I am honored to serve as a co-chair this year and encourage our alumni, families, and staff to attend what promises to be a wonderful night!”

Child’s Voice helps children with hearing loss learn to listen and speak. Students wear hearing aids and/or cochlear implants and programs use a child-focused, research-based curriculum, all with the end goal of transitioning graduates back to their neighborhood schools. This year, Child’s Voice has supported nearly 400 children and their families. Students range in age from just a few days old through the age of 8.

“The Gala is truly one of our highlights of the year,” Dr. Michele Wilkins  said. “The Elmhurst College Jazz Band is returning, as is ArtBeat Live!, both bring a wonderful level of excitement and entertainment to the Gala.  Truly, the highlight is the celebration of our graduates and hearing their stories, as well as the opportunity to gather so many of our alumni, families, staff, partners, and more. The combined passion for helping children with hearing loss in that room is contagious. I am always moved by the generosity of the attendees to change the lives of our students and their families. I look forward to seeing everyone there!”
