Celebrating 10 Years of Extraordinary Audiology!

Happy Birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy Birthday Dear Audiology…Happy Birthday to you!!!!!

It is hard to believe that is has been 10 years since the Audiology Program opened its doors!  Wow, what a 10 years it has been!  The biggest honor I have had in that time is to serve the children and families of Child’s Voice.  I cannot express the joy it has given me to watch the children grow, talk, leave, and then return – some return for Audiology services, some return as speakers at events, and some just return to say “Hi!”.   All are extremely successful!

I have also seen our “big” students (Audiology Externs) arrive at Child’s Voice over the last 10 years and just blossom with regards to working with young children.  I take great pleasure in seeing them “fly the coop” and start successful careers in the Audiology profession in universities, at manufacturers, and at hospitals.  All are successful and talk about how much they loved Child’s Voice and their time here.

In 2013 we opened the Pediatric Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Program (PEHDI) and began testing newborns!  To date we have tested over 175 babies and diagnosed, on average, 25% with some form of hearing loss.  Our average age of diagnosis is 8.4 weeks which is phenomenal!  As you well know, the earlier we diagnose and fit, the better the outcomes!

Over the last 10 years we have expanded our staff and our physical space in the building as well.  I have had the opportunity to conduct and present research at various locations, write a book chapter, teach at local universities and collaborate with our local hospitals!  Phew..it’s been busy!

I cannot list all the accomplishments we have made over the last 10 years, some are big, some are small, all are important!  I know that I could not have been this successful without the support of many people in and out of the building including but not limited to Dr. Michele, the Child’s Voice Board of Directors, the staff of audiology and many more.  I am positive that had I not been afforded this wonderful position at Child’s Voice, none of these fabulous events would have occurred. I am never shy when telling pretty much anyone who will listen, “I have the best of all worlds working at Child’s Voice and this is truly the best job ever!”  I will end with a quote I honestly believe. Confucius says “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life,” Happy Birthday to us and I can’t wait to see what the next 10 years hold in store for us!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you, Dr. Dawn
