On June 6, Child’s Voice hosted our annual Golf event out at Cantigny golf course in Wheaton, Ill. The day was beautiful. All golfers had a terrific time and Child’s Voice grossed over 6 figures that will go to support all our programs.

A major piece of this event is to have our alumni and current students participate. We had two alumni on the course to challenge golfers for the best shot. (I do think our alumni golfers were better than many golfers were!) We had current and alumni students staff the lemonade stand and a putting challenge. Again, I think our young putters, (perhaps in the spirit of generosity) often won the bet with golfers. We had three alumni who shared speeches at dinner. All of them were outstanding. They all reflected on how Child’s Voice helped shape their life.

Our students who were at the event and many of our students in our programs do exhibit empathy and kindness. Those at our golf event are there with their models—their parents. To be kind to others can be taught. These students are caring and helpful not only to each other but with adults. Their parents (and teachers) have modeled, demonstrated, and talked about being kind.

There is a psychologist, Dr. Richard Weissbourd at Harvard, who runs a program called “Making Caring Common.” Please CLICK HERE to learn how you can promote kindness in your child.

Hope to see you all at our Family Reunion on August 6, 2017. We will be located in the park next to Wood Dale Jr. High.

Fondly,

Dr. Michele
